About Dr. Atilla Turgay
Dr. Turgay is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. He is the Director of Psychiatric Research and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder Clinic, Training and Research Institute and Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Scarborough Hospital and a full professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Turgay published over 200 papers, abstracts, chapters and books on various psychiatric disorders. He has carried many international research grants to study the effects of psychoactive medication on children and adolescents and brain function monitoring in ADHD and Conduct Disorder. Dr. Turgay was the principal investigator for nine international multi-site psychopharmacological studies in the treatment of ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorders and Autistic Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. His investigator-initiated trial with risperidone contributed to the recent approval of this medication in Autistic Disorder by the FDA in the U.S.
Dr. Turgay was the recipient of “Service Excellence Award” from the State of Michigan. Dr. Turgay received the “Outstanding Career Award” from Child and Play Therapy International. He received the "Outstanding Performance Award" from the Scarborough Hospital. One of his research studies on ADHD Comorbidity received the Past Presidents' Award from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is the principal author of the Canadian ADHD Practice Guidelines (published in 2007).
Dr. Turgay was the Scientific Consultant and one of the individuals who appeared on an ADHD Documentary Movie, “Odd Kid Out”. This movie was presented at six international film festivals and received positive reviews. The documentary movie on Learning Disabilities, “My Different Life”, sponsored and will be aired by TV Ontario and Dr. Turgay served as the Scientific Consultant and Advisor for this movie. Dr. Turgay serves as a reviewer on a few scientific journals in Canada, U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa.
